Churros Calientes

June 9, 2014

Churros Calientes, located in West LA on Santa Monica Blvd, is a perfect place for the dessert/coffee aficionado looking to satisfy their sweet tooth. Located in a small Spanish-inspired cafe, Churros Calientes is not like the Mexican-style churros we’re accustomed to from Disneyland. In fact, they differ from their counterpart by being smaller, thinner, and crispier, with only a light amount of sugar added - leaving out the cinnamon. They are the type of churros you would find in Spain or Venezuela, minus the jet lag.

The cafe offers different variations by topping or stuffing churros in several sweet options, including dulce de leche, guava, and caramel. On my Sunday afternoon visit, I opted for the classic, churros con chocolate - which is 6 made-to-order churros served with a small cup of organic hot chocolate to dip and sip. I also ordered a “cortado leche y leche,” which is your traditional cortado (espresso cut with milk), but it also included condensed milk; making it a perfectly sweetened espresso drink!

When I'm longing for a trip to Spain with The Mrs. I'll opt for a quick trip back here!
