Santa Monica Pier - it’s iconic, it’s historic, it’s a place I always take an out-of-town guest to, because to me, it doesn’t get any more classic than this. And after trying The Albright, I am convinced, that this is the perfect experience for visitors and locals alike. If there is one restaurant on the pier that I would visit again and again, it’s The Albright.
Owned and operated by the same family, now the second generation has revamped the restaurant into a more rustic, welcoming place with communal tables to enjoy some of the freshest seafood on the Westside. Complete with a live crab and lobster tank, The Albright is a fish lover’s paradise.
Our feast began with fried calamari with chipotle aioli. We then shared a large bread bowl with clam chowder - so rich and delicious. The fish and chips were some of the best in town, and yes I’ve had the one from that English pub a few blocks away, and in my opinion, this one is worth trying. It was perfectly battered and fried, served with skinny fries, which this California dude prefers anyway.
The live lobster with corn on the cob and potato salad in a tin bucket was the epitome of an ocean side seafood experience. It was a bit messy, but worth it. Out of everything we tried, my favorite, and what I will come back and get again, is the crab roll. It was the perfect sandwich with fries, on a warm sunny day by the ocean. Nothing beats that!
The Albright definitely opened my eyes to coming back to the pier for good food. The extensive craft beer list, casual environment, and fresh seafood, are a great reason to dine here when you're visiting the Santa Monica Pier.
