Sidecar Doughnuts

November 11, 2014

I’ll be honest, my attraction to try Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee was the pure fact that it looked like a doughnut shop straight out of Boardwalk Empire - except for the bootlegging and all. It’s got that hipster look that would fit nicely on Abbot Kinney, but it’s in a shopping center in Costa Mesa - a small place with a few tables out front.

The doughnuts! Oh the doughnuts! They’re made fresh in small batches continuously throughout the day, which is great, because you won’t get a stale doughnut if you visit near closing hours. There are a set of staple flavors, including the popular Huckleberry that I had to wait for to be made - but so worth it! Also, what doughnut isn’t complimented by coffee! Sidecar serves Stumptown, including two blends that were developed specifically for the shop.

Sidecar Doughnuts also has Monthly flavors, and we got a chance to try two of them: Southern Gentleman (pecan pie filling made with cane syrup and Bourbon, and finished with fresh whipped cream) and Lemon Poppyseed. Cool hipster vibe aside, the doughnuts are as good as the aesthetics. I’m willing to drive from LA to the OC for these!
